Get excited (or depressed) for more Honey Boo Boo

Our favorite 7-year-old beauty queen/Go-Go Juice addict Honey Boo Boo is here to stay — for now, at least. The Associated Press says:

The TLC network said Wednesday that it has ordered Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas specials focusing on its seven-year-old breakout star, Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson. The series airs its 10th and final episode of its debut season on Wednesday.

And:

TLC has also ordered additional episodes of the series to air next spring.

Thank goodness, our Honey Boo Boo obsession will be satiated. Boo agrees, too.

Supersuckers @ Old No. 2 next Wednesday

Avoid the Hump Day blues, grab a few brews and rock out with Supersuckers next Wednesday.

B Live Promotions, the folks behind Old No. 2, will host Supersuckers on the Old No. 2 stage Wednesday, Oct. 3. Doors will open at 8 p.m.

Originally from Tucson, Ariz., the band was formed in 1988 with energetic frontman Eddie Spaghetti on vocals and bass, Dan "Thunder" Bolton and Rontrose Heathman on guitar and Dancing Eagle on drums (Scott Churilla is their current drummer). After conquering the southwest music scene, they decided to move to Seattle, Wash., in 1989 just as the grunge scene was starting to explode and quickly rose up the ranks. They have released eight albums over their illustrious career, first with the label Interscope, then moving to Koch, and lastly, forming their own recording company known as Mid-Fi Recordings. However, it is a hunger for the road and playing in front of live audiences that have kept the band going for all these years. They have been called one of the "best live bands on the planet" by various music magazines, and after 20 years, they still continue to hit the live music scene. The list of bands they have toured with over the years runs like a "who's who of rock-n-roll" and includes bands such as Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Social Distortion, The Ramones, White Zombie, Bad Religion, Motorhead and Mudhoney, just to name a few. They also have played various Farm Aid festivals, Woodstock 2000, Reading/Leeds Festival and backed Willie Nelson on the Jay Leno Show. Eddie Veder, lead singer of Pearl Jam, is such a big fan he had them play his 40th birthday party . . . so if they are good enough for Eddie, they are definitely worthy of Laredo. 

And Supersuckers have some high praise, from Motörhead's Lemmy himself.

 (Lemmy) probably said it best, "If you don't like the Supersuckers, you don't like Rock-n-Roll."  

It's the band's first visit to Laredo. Here's a little preview of what's in store for concertgoers:

2012 Latin Grammy nominees announced

The 2012 Latin Grammy nominees were announced today, and Dominican singer, songwriter and producer Juan Luis Guerra leads the nominees, with six nods, the Associated Press reports.

Other nominees include:

• Mexican pop duo Jesse & Joy, with 5 nominations
• Colombian favorite Juanes, 4
• Guatemala's Ricardo Arjona, 4
• Brazilians Caetano Veloso and Ivete Sangalo, both with 4

The 2012 Latin Grammys will be presented Nov. 14 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and broadcast live on Univision.

Hacienda on Letterman

It has been a long time coming for Laredoan Dante Schwebel, of the band Hacienda.
    Armed with three records produced by Dan Auerbach (of The Black Keys), the band now makes its way to the national stage for its first appearance on the "Late Show with David Letterman."
    Hacienda, made up of three brothers - Abraham Villanueva on keyboards, Rene Villanueva on bass, and Jaime Villanueva on drums - was joined by their cousin, Dante, on guitar in 2006.
    Gaining notoriety for backing Dan Auerbach on his solo album "Keep it Hid," the band took a life of its own, touring the country with such acts as My Morning Jacket, The Black Keys and Dr. Dog. When asked what the difference between a national live crowd and a national TV audience would be, Schwebel responded, "The exposure level. You reach so many people in just three minutes or whatever. That, and my folks will get to watch it."
    Schwebel, now living in Nashville, Tenn., says his new home is a lot like Austin.
    "So many people here can totally outplay you," he said. "It can be intimidating, but people work together very well, and the studios are amazing here."
    Hacienda will appear on the "Late Show with David Letterman" on CBS at 10:35 p.m. Tonight.
